Henry instinctively shot his tongue out and wrapped it around the shaman’s arm. He pulled back and Ott came with it, landing at Henry’s feet. He shifted his attention to Piran, who stood facing Kana.

Henry turned his head slowly to Kana and met the deity’s giant eyes. A large tear rolled out from the corner of her eye and splashed down onto the shore. Two seconds later, blood rose from the giant tortoise’s mouth and spilled down her throat. His eyes shifted to Kana’s neck, which had been sliced open in multiple spots as several Mellivora continued to stab and hack at the deity. The excited growls of the badgers filled the air as they turned their attention from Kana to the Rhacos. Within a matter of seconds, the badgers turned their weapons on Piran’s family, executing every one of them except Piran. Delg gasped with a sickening gurgle and dropped the glowing tortoise amulet as a Mellivora slammed a spear through the Rhacophor’s throat. Delg gripped the end of the spear that protruded from his neck and stared wide-eyed at Ott before falling motionless into the lake.

A loud roar rose from behind as Bug rumbled down the path from the arena toward the fight, followed by all four cats and the rest of the villagers. A loud battle cry came from Augus as he lifted his sword high and ran full-speed toward the scrum. The hulking, scarred Mellivora released a vicious growl into the air as Kana stumbled backwards and sank down onto her knees. Her massive, leathery head wobbled and crashed into the shallow water along the shore. With one last breath, the deity’s colossal body fell motionless. An angry yell pierced the air from atop the hill across from the front gate where Henry had noticed the shadowy figures. As the voice echoed across the lake, it did not sound like a scream of approval, but one of frustration.

Ott released his own furious scream as he ran to Kana’s side, immediately whispering incantations as the other Lagoans arrived and rushed toward the Mellivora. Piran held his arms out and dropped his knife, sinking down onto the shore face to face with the deceased tortoise. An attacking Mellivora rushed forward and lunged for Piran, knocking him over onto the ground. Piran sprawled out onto the ground, refusing to fight back, seemingly in shock. The badger lifted a knife over his head, Henry ran forward and shot his tongue out of his mouth, sending it straight through the badger’s eye socket and out the back of its head. He leapt forward and tackled the badger and brought his fists down with fury. He could feel the bones crack after each punch, as if it were the wood in the floor of the abandoned castle in Mythelluna. He swung relentlessly until the badger’s face was no longer recognizable.

Henry stood with blood covered fists and searched for his next target. He surveyed the area and watched as the large scarred Mellivora lifted a Rhacophor by the neck and twisted, dropping her limp form to the ground.
